Erica Porter

Director of Hopscotch Design Festival

Weird in a good way

Erica brings her fun personality, attention to detail, and desire to create equity for all to New Kind as the Director of Hopscotch Design Festival. With her extensive background in creative marketing, event planning, and social justice work, Erica builds communities of people who want to push the edges of design to influence authentic change.

After graduating with a B.S. in Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management with a focus on Program Management from NC State University, Erica started her event career with the Jimmy V Celebrity Golf Classic for Cancer Research. In 2013, she sat on the steering committee to launch the Jamie Kirk Hahn Foundation, where she served as the lead event volunteer. She joined the JKHF staff in June 2016 as their Director of Operations and Events. Erica is currently Secretary of the Board of Directors for Visual Art Exchange and a longtime planner of SPARKcon, specifically fashionSPARK.

If you’re looking for Erica when she isn’t inspiring others through events, you’ll most likely find her spreading glitter around town, making wreaths, volunteering at Burkett Farm, enjoying a meal at Crawford & Son, collecting pens, or encouraging others to ask important questions about social justice.

Why New Kind?

She who leaves a trail of glitter is never forgotten.
