Dave Mason Joins New Kind

I’m excited to announce that on Monday, Dave Mason will begin work at New Kind. Dave is joining us from Mozilla, where he was most recently the product manager for the web platform. But some of us at New Kind have a long history with Dave, dating back to our shared journey at Red Hat, where Dave was the director of the Red Hat Advanced Development Labs and later a manager of OS development.

Dave has worked to build communities throughout his career, from nonprofit global health organizations to building communities for political campaigns.

At New Kind, Dave will be our Director of Community Dynamics.

Community dynamics is about how and what makes communities work. Dave is an expert at applying principles that have been successfully used in the open source movement to bring people together and help them get great things done. In his most recent role at Mozilla, Dave helped coordinate the efforts of thousands of volunteer open source developers around the world.

He will apply this expertise toward a broad range of community-building efforts at New Kind. We are still figuring out all of the ways Dave might be able to help us and, as my partner David Burney has often said, we are comfortable not having all of the answers yet.

What we do know is that Dave deeply understands how to build, inspire, and maintain communities, something critical to our work at New Kind. He has a diverse set of skills and interests–writer, photographer, musician, among others. And he brings a new technical depth to New Kind that we are pretty darned thrilled to have.

Welcome, Dave!
