Manuel,

I have enjoyed interacting with you on Path.

As for brands, many companies have failed or fallen short because they were locked in on what they were doing well at the present rather than looking at what was coming next. In terms of social media it is important to keep an eye on the future. You are right, my friend.

I love your perspective, Nation, as it reflects exactly how I feel about social media and recent technology developments in general. People (and brands) often miss the point because they're bogged down in the struggle of whether or not to adopt a new network, app or site. I have no idea how many times I've seen eyes rolling when I start asking people if they've tried a particular site like Pinterest, like they're bothered by the idea of yet another network (even though I do understand that not all networks are for everyone or every brand like you mention).

For me, it's more about learning why different companies come up with ideas on how they can tap into the social experience. Every one of these - Path, IG, FB, etc.. came out of an idea, and while not all of them might have mass appeal, they generally make sense for a large number of people. It just so happens that those people might be exactly the target audience your company or brand is going for, so it's important to understand and plan for learning about these new sites when they do come online.

Thanks for sharing!

Informative article. I love how it is balanced on the good and improvements Moleskin could have done.

Yes I am fan of Moleskin and like any other company the community manager could not grasp the values of a designer. How could this contest be changed so all the designers who participated will feel valued.

[...] Another great part of the Internet Summit is the pre-conference sessions. I was able to catch a great presentation by Matthew Muñoz on using, “Design as A Strategic Tool.” The session went beyond designing your website, application, etc and talked about aligning self-interest with a shared purpose and how to create an architecture of participation within the walls of a company. There are some great tips for all in this presentation. Feel free to check it out here. [...]
