It may be ok to let your three year old go on believing in Santa.
Is it ok, to pedal messages of hope and inspiration when this simple message "ignores the determinative power of luck and the INEVITABILITY of regression."
On the whole I dont think messages of inspiration do inspire people to action, unless the actually make a plan and, well, take action.
It may feel good to read about the successes of others, a sort of Armchair Business Adventure if you will. But ultimately the only way anything changes is through action. Applying "principles" identified from one situation to another is always missing the key point, the new situation is different. Perhaps imperceptibly, but in important ways. Ways that may preclude your principal/strategy/ core value from impacting the true issue.

Manuel,

I have enjoyed interacting with you on Path.

As for brands, many companies have failed or fallen short because they were locked in on what they were doing well at the present rather than looking at what was coming next. In terms of social media it is important to keep an eye on the future. You are right, my friend.

I love your perspective, Nation, as it reflects exactly how I feel about social media and recent technology developments in general. People (and brands) often miss the point because they're bogged down in the struggle of whether or not to adopt a new network, app or site. I have no idea how many times I've seen eyes rolling when I start asking people if they've tried a particular site like Pinterest, like they're bothered by the idea of yet another network (even though I do understand that not all networks are for everyone or every brand like you mention).

For me, it's more about learning why different companies come up with ideas on how they can tap into the social experience. Every one of these - Path, IG, FB, etc.. came out of an idea, and while not all of them might have mass appeal, they generally make sense for a large number of people. It just so happens that those people might be exactly the target audience your company or brand is going for, so it's important to understand and plan for learning about these new sites when they do come online.

Thanks for sharing!
