Pascale’s Triangle: Creativity, Relationship Building, and Motherhood

New Kind is delighted to welcome Pascale Georges to our team as Relationship Manager. I had a chance to sit down with Pascale recently and ask her a few questions.

Tell me a little about yourself.

I was born in Boston to Haitian parents and moved to Miami when I was three years old. After graduating from high school, I moved from Miami to Providence, Rhode Island to attend Brown University. I graduated from Brown with a dual degree in International Relations and History of Art and Architecture. While attending Brown University, I interned at Simon and Schuster in New York in the Marketing Department, and I studied abroad in Italy.  After college, I moved to the East Village neighborhood in New York, and worked at Christie’s Auction House, and later at an art gallery in Midtown. I also worked for an online education software company called Great Results for two years. I eventually decided to go to pharmacy school at UNC-Chapel Hill. Ironically, I did not study anything science-related while in college. I took all of the pre-requisites for pharmacy school in the course of a year, and moved to Chapel Hill. After a year of pharmacy school, I decided that the profession was not for me. I then went to work for New Media Campaigns, a web design and development agency where I was a project manager for about three years. I have one son, Harrison, who is 6 years old and an active Cub Scout.

How would you describe yourself in a few words?

I am curious, quirky, passionate, and driven.

Do you consider yourself to be a “creative” person?

Yes, I consider myself a creative person. Growing up in Miami, surrounded by art deco and art from all over the world, led me to have an early appreciation of art and culture. I cannot paint or draw, but I love photography. I pride myself in being able to find beauty in everything. I like to think outside of the box and work with creative people. I like coming up with ideas that manifest themselves in different ways.

What would surprise me about you?

People seem to be surprised by my decision to attend pharmacy school and even more so when I tell them that I actually administered flu vaccines. Occasionally, people are surprised when I speak with family on the phone because I usually speak with them in Creole or French.

What is your favorite kind of music?

I listen to a wide range of music. I like Radiohead, 90s R&B, Fleetwood Mac, Phil Collins, FKA Twigs, and Florence and the Machine. I also like a lot of oldies and electronic music. I can go on and on when I talk about music.

What is your favorite song?

This week it is Graceland by Paul Simon.

What is your favorite book?

One of my favorite books is “Little Women” by Louisa May Alcott. It’s about four sisters, their relationships and life experiences. There are wonderful lessons about life in each chapter.

What is your greatest passion?

My greatest passion is being a mom to my son Harrison.

Why?

As a parent you have the chance to see your child grow up, and how they view the world. I take my role as parent to very seriously. It is a real gift to help nurture my son and watch him grow.

What are you most proud of in your life?

I am proud of my choices, because it is easy for people to doubt themselves. When I reflect on my years, my choices have taken me to a good place in life.

Could you give an example of someone made a difference in your life?

I would say my high school English teacher, Mr. Kendall. I am a stickler for the use of good grammar because of him. I usually feel the need to restructure sentences with passive voice because Mr. Kendall pops in my head.

What is your greatest source of inspiration?

Without question, it is my son, Harrison.

What defines success for you?

For me success is happiness and feeling like you did things with integrity.

What do you hope to accomplish at New Kind?

I would like to channel my creative mind in a more focused manner by furthering my skills in design and branding. I also want to contribute my knowledge in web and mobile development to the New Kind Team.

What do you consider as your “specialty”?

My specialty is maintaining client relationships and developing the process behind the overall project. I pride myself in my ability to keep projects on track.

So, if you’re good at keeping projects on track, is your favorite tool a carrot or a stick?

I am a carrot person. I don’t like punishing people or telling them what to do. I like to have a discussion with them and align different ideas. I consider myself a facilitator, not a dictator.

What are your hobbies?

I am a huge pop culture fan. I like watching movies. I also like cooking and traveling. And, I really enjoy the opportunity to visit to different parts of North Carolina and the surrounding states.

How do your creative skills mesh with being a mother?

I have to be really creative with my time and good at solving problems, both of which are important in being a good mother.

What brought you to New Kind?

I was looking for an agency that thinks outside of the box. The people at New Kind had a good reputation, which led me to the firm. New Kinders seem to be passionate about their work, and I wanted to be a part of that. I like the New Kind approach of taking a holistic view of solving problems for and with their clients.

What is the most important thing you can do for a client?

First and foremost, listening to clients is most important. I try to make sure that I am communicating with clients and keeping them informed even when there is not a deliverable. I try to keep my clients sufficiently informed to avoid surprises.

Thanks Pascale!  You certainly have an interesting background. We’re excited that you have joined our team and particularly excited about adding your project management skills to the New Kind portfolio of services for our clients.
